Managing and Processing DBS Checks - 3 modules

Designed to provide a comprehensive understanding of a schools statutory requirements in relation to carrying out DBS and other pre-employment checks and maintaining their Single Central Record.
However, there is also a separate SCR training course running on 10 November, should you require more information.

This course is aimed at Primary Applicant Managers/Applicant Managers / ID Checkers / DBS System Users who manage and process DBS checks.
The session includes:
- Safeguarding Legislation
- Who requires a DBS check?
- Workforce, miscellaneous terminology and processing requirement
- DBS Update Service
- Single Central Record
- Risk Assessments (pre-employment positive disclosures)
Event pre-requisites
This course is suitable for anyone responsible for completing DBS and other pre-employment checks and for those who maintain the Single Central Record. The content will be useful to those new in post as well as more experience staff as the course content is constantly updated to reflect the current statutory requirements.
Training objectives
Delegates will have a greater understanding of legislation and processing requirements for DBS checks, the pre-employment check requirements of KCSIE and of managing the SCR. The course also involves a practical demonstration of our DBS portal and activities such as risk assessing positive DBS disclosures.
Learning outcomes - Participants will gain:
- The meaning of 'Regulated Activity'
- What 'Regular' contact with children represents
- The need for careful assessment of volunteer duties and the meaning of 'Supervision'
- How to process a DBS check
- The requirements of the Single Central Record
The course is run over three modules of 2.5 hours each.

- Safeguarding legislation
- Types of DBS check
- Definition of regulated activity
- Who requires a DBS check?
- Children’s Barred List
- Pre-DBS risk assessment and supervision
Module Two:
- Online DBS portal demonstration
- ID checking guidelines and routes
- Tracking applications and escalations
- DBS Update service
- Positive DBS disclosures and risk assessments
- DBS filtering rules
Module Three:
- The Single Central Record
- Ofsted guidance on inspecting the SCR
- Teacher prohibition and EEA Checks
- Childcare Disqualification
- Section 128 checks
- Overseas police checks
- Right to work
- Academy conversion
Please note the 2nd
module of this course includes a walk-through of the (4S) DBS portal, however
the rest of the course content is generic and relevant to all users.
